GARDEN ANNEX by Wak.Tok Architects
The annex functions as an open-air pavilion, seamlessly integrating with the patio and garden. Previously dominated by bamboo, the yard underwent a complete transformation into a native garden. Extensive soil amendments helped mitigate water runoff and improve garden irrigation.
A 4-foot grid was employed throughout the structure to align with standard plywood panel sizes and multi-slide door dimensions, optimizing efficiency. The use of natural and non-toxic materials and finishes was prioritized, ensuring both a healthy space and a reduction in harmful waste disposal.
The expanded outdoor room provided a much-needed oasis, offering a safe space for gatherings during these unprecedented times. Over time, the garden has flourished, and the enhanced indoor and outdoor living areas that emerged from this crisis response continue to be enjoyed today, providing a tranquil space for connection and reflection.
