Dogtrot at Stony Point | HEDS

Winner of the Virginia Society American Institute of Architects Honor Award, a top Virginia Earth craft Award, and published in the Wall Street Journal, this sleek modern house re-interprets the traditional vernacular “dogtrot.”

Molly (visual artist) and Deepak (public interest lawyer) frequently escape to their dogtrot-style sanctuary in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.

Designed by Chris Hays of Hays Ewing Design Studio. Molly and Deepak as second owners hired the original design team to finish off the unique project with a detached pool-house/garage and modern pool and pond combination.

The Čoarvemátta | Snøhetta

Nestled into the wilderness of the most northern region of Norway, the land of The Sámi people, sits a new shared space for the Sámi High School & Reindeer Herding School and The Sámi National Theater Beaivváš.

The unique structure was thoughtfully designed with Sámi ideology in mind - natural materials, a subtle footprint in the landscape reminiscent of a reindeer antler, views to the surrounding nature, and harmonizing connections between physical building and landscape, between the Sami theater and school. The proposal for Čoarvemátta was developed in collaboration with Snøhetta, 70°N arkitektur, and Joar Nango.

Garden Annex | Wak Tok Architects

Designed by WAK TOK Architects in Washington, DC, the annex opens completely as an open-air pavilion, seamlessly connecting to the patio and garden. The yard, once overrun with bamboo, went through a total transformation into a native garden. Extensive soil amendment mitigated water run-off and enhanced garden irrigation.

A 4' grid is utilized throughout the structure to work with stock plywood panels and multi-slide door dimensions to maximize efficiency.
